The Goethe-Institut is the cultural institution of the Federal Republic of Germany with a global reach. We promote knowledge of the German language abroad and foster international cultural cooperation. We convey a comprehensive picture of Germany through information on the cultural, social, and political life of our country. Our cultural and educational programs promote intercultural dialogue and make cultural participation possible. They strengthen the development of structures of civil society and facilitate worldwide mobility.
Responsibilities:
· Coordinate communications for strategically important projects and the Goethe-Institut brand in close collaboration with the Director of Communications and other departments
· Develop, implement, and evaluate communication concepts and digital marketing tactics across various media channels and platforms, including mapping customer journeys Analyze, strategize, and conceptualize the Goethe-Institut’s social media channels in consultation with the Director of Communications through a regional lens, coordinating with Washington and other Goethe-Instituts in the U.S.
· Create and organize editorial and multimedia content for social media on Goethe-Institut topics and events: conception, coordination, realization, evaluation, further development of social media formats, management of an editorial plan, prioritization of posts if necessary, quality management, adherence to the Goethe-Institut's corporate design
· Perform community management, interact with users, conduct user tests, and incorporate feedback, respond to comments on social media in a timely manner, consulting relevant departments in case of technical questions
· Plan and manage social media campaigns to promote products, projects, and events, including targeting and financial processing as well as coordinating and managing cross-media PR campaigns and content marketing
· Develop and implement concepts for networking with other users and increase reach, initiating, collaborating, and maintaining contact with influencers and content partners
· Maintain the Goethe-Institut Washington’s homepage and newsletter
· Consistently observe the market, researching and following new trends, evaluating, and if necessary, adapting the Goethe-Institut’s channels
· Manage external service providers (e.g. for multi-media content)
· Monitor the budget, including invoice processing and reporting
Requirements
· Knowledge of English at native level, very good knowledge of German
· Bachelor’s degree or higher in media studies with a specialization in social media and digital public relations or several years of relevant professional experience in media relations, social media, and editorial work
· Passion for digital communication channels, willingness to follow trends and implement innovations in the digital field, basic knowledge of planning and implementing communication concepts
· Good knowledge of the U.S. media landscape (incl. relevant channels, blogs, and influencers)
· Expertise in social media conception, editing, analysis, and management
· Interest and good knowledge of the U.S. and German cultural landscapes
· Good writing style and understanding of journalistic standards
· Team player with a proactive can-do-attitude
· Working knowledge of all common MS Office products, website design, and digital platforms
